Here is the x-ray of Desdemone showing all 11 puppies. WOW!
22 July 2010
With one week to go, Daisy is getting quieter and quieter and sleeps more and more. She is very very big and we are waiting for her to explode!
At this point, we have started to check her temperature daily and in a couple of days we will up that to twice a day. She has received Panacur daily since the 10th of July to prevent the puppies from getting worms from her. In the next couple of days, we will set up the whelping box and introduce her to it. And then, it is just waiting for the day!
15 July 2010
Two weeks to go…..
Desdemone is now sporting a nice pregnant belly, she has no waist anymore – in either direction (i.e. seen from the top or the side) – and we are counting down the days to the birth.
By middle of next week, we will have the whelping box set up so that she can get used to it.
In the meantime, she spends less and less time outside and more time indoors sleeping and eating.
On the 24th, we will take her to the vet to have her x-rayed, so that we will have an idea of how many puppies to expect. We may still get surprised (actually it is very likely), but at least we will not think the birth is over after 4 if the x-ray shows 6 puppies for example).
I leave you with a picture of Daisy, which shows how much she has “grown”!!
26 June 2010
It is now almost halfway through Desdemone’s pregnancy. So far, she is showing little outward signs of it, however, her tummy is not quite as highly tucked up anymore and much softer than it used to be.
She is running less often during her time outside, and has taken to napping even more than she already does. Her need for cuddles has also increased and she is more insistent in pointing that out to us.
24 June 2010
We have confirmed Desdemones pregnancy with the vet today and we are very happy to announce that the mating was successful and we are expecting at least 4 puppies. That much we could see. However, the vet said that it is very likely there are more puppies than those 4. So we are waiting to be surprised by the actual number.
28 & 29 May 2010
The mating has taken place between Gib JCH Aragon du Grand Fresnoy and Desdemone du Grand Fresnoy (2 CAC, 2 CACIB, 3 BOB). We are expecting the puppies towards the end of July 2010. This is our first litter at Ishushiy Drakonov and we are very much looking forward to it.
